Background
I currently work in an acute medical unit as a Consultant. This involves the daily assessment and treatment of a large number of emergency admissions mainly suffering from acute medical problems. However, a significant number of admissions also present with acute surgical problems including trauma, head injuries, other fractures and soft tissue injuries. About 50% of admissions are in the 70 plus age group.
I have held this post since March 2015. Prior to that I have held substantive NHS consultant posts in General Medicine, Stroke Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.
I am actively involved in the Trust appraisal and re-validation policy and I undertake regular broad based medical CPD activity in a wide range of medical areas. I also undertake medico-legal CPD through organisations such as the Cambridge Medico-legal Forum.
Examples of recent cases include:
- Medical negligence involving elderly and middle aged claimants
- Medical report for a prisoner applying for release
- Fatal injury in an elderly woman
- Numerous soft tissue injuries involving claimants of all ages
